The history of Orthodox philanthropy in America revolves around a few leading figures who created many of the Jewish institutions and organizations. Harry Fischel came to American with no money in his pocket and he created a successful career and a leading role in New York Jewish philanthropy. His story is a model for all subsequent Orthodox philanthropists.
